Character, Not Creeds

Christian character is the only real test of membership and fellowship.

God looks on the heart. A congregation can ask whether someone is following Jesus; it cannot replace that question with a committee’s creed or a sectarian membership roll.

This page gathers the essays on what the New Testament treats as the tests of fellowship, what that meant for the earliest congregations, and where the line falls between character and doctrinal agreement.
