Statement VIII of X · Church of Christ Fundamentals
Congregational Government
I establish congregational government, with a plurality of elders, the rights of lay leaders to lead, and congregational cooperation and support.
Each congregation in the New Testament is shepherded by its own elders — always a plurality, never one man ruling alone — with every member equipped to serve.
This page gathers the essays on how congregations were led, what elders and deacons actually are, and how autonomous congregations worked together without a hierarchy above them.
